Already have a great set of IOS Synth apps but want to get some unique sounds & rhythms from them?

MidiSequencer is a step sequencer designed to let you play with melodic tunes on the fly to create exotic sounds from your favourite IOS and hardware synths.

** Reworked as Universal device (iPhone 4s,5,6,6+ and all iPads) **

Comprehensive manual available for view http://www.amssoftware.org/manual/midiSequencerManual.pdf

With step sequencing, up to 16 midi notes can be defined and played back interactively using buttons, sliders and swipes. It therefore lends itself to more experimental style of music making as steps can have all manner of variations - pitch, velocity, length, midi channel, swing, % probability(note or velocity) and musical ornaments such as ratchetting and mordents.

With the addition of chords, each step can also send out up to 128 note chords. You can create your own chords by using a on-screen keyboard or pick common ones such as the dim7.

Midi FX are now included included echo, filters, layering and note rotation....

MidiSequencer also offers extreme tempos (from 1 to 1020BPM) and a variety of Master/Slave combinations utilising midi clocks.

SPECIAL NOTES :
1) iOS 8 or greater only so iPad 1 not suported
2) Iphone 4 upwards only
3) This app makes no sound (although it can send/receive midi to coreMidi apps you have installed on your iPad).
4) To communicate with external midi equipment you will need a suitable iPad midi interface unless you use the Midi Network sessions over wifi.
5) 64 bit compliant

Pros and cons of midiSequencer app for iPhone and iPad

midiSequencer app good for

a time machine to 1974! but with more features than they ever dreamed of. an extremely well built piece of software. more please!
Sophisticated sequencer that does it all. Comes with great manual, AudioBus compatible, Pleasure to use. Can be controlled with MidiBus. I like the FX feature as well.
from now on i believe in praying. Ratcheting, note duration, triplets, fast clock, am i dreaming or what? thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you......... hope for an good support for that sexy kind of a sequencer
A dream comes true with the Audiobus 2 integration! Besides the easy way to create powerful sequencer patterns for ios synths, I love the ability to trigger vst synths via network. Another great plus is the scale option, crazy bpm settings and so on!

Some bad moments

It would be a great feature for this app. Please Anthony, have Audiobus support in a future update.
Already my go to midi step sequencer for iPad (no reason to add audiobus!). Solid immediacy with all the fundamentals including note, velocity, and gate, with the capability to sequence 2 lanes of ccs as well. My wish list for future update would be 1) Discretely variable # of steps per parameter lane, 2) Ability to tie notes to make longer than step value notes and perhaps glide, 3) Multi channel would be nice...at least one more channel to add some counterpoint, 4) Constrain scale would be fun. Nice work, keep it up please!
This app is a cool, modern twist on an analog style MIDI panel that looks like something out of the early 80s. The app itself plays no music, but easily links up with (most) popular synthesizers and other Virtual MIDI compatible music apps. The default is 4/4 time and 16 steps, but this can be modified. Each step is set to a note, or skipped over. There are also multiple MIDI channels, so you could actually have different steps playing notes from 2 or more synthesizers in the background. And there are a variety of features that are over my head, but are sure to thrill MIDI experts more knowledgeable than I. One of my favorite new features in version 1.5 is the introduction of scales. At present, you have chromatic, major, and minor scales, with more to come in the future. This means that you can draw the sliders in sequence so that only in-key notes will play. Great idea for music composition. And, of course, since the machine is automated, its capable of playing sequences more accurately and faster than would be humanly possible, especially on an iPad touchscreen. I would note that the current version is not compatible with AudioBus or IAA. That means that you cant access mini-controls for your recording app while you are in midiSequencer. However, you can start the sequence and access the controls while in the AB-compatible app, and there also ways to synchronize timing using MIDI itself. The developer is very responsive and has indicated that AudioBus compatibility is coming in the next update. Great product that can bring new life out of other music apps!
Loving the latest update with the ability to automate 4 MIDI CCs...solid clock, great interface, very cool for controlling your synths and effects!
midiSequencer is an amazing step sequencer for iOS. Immediately accessible, yet powerfully deep. The developer is constantly making updates to improve an already great app. Highly recommend!
Cool sequencer but will be awesome when I can midi learn the note, transposition slider etc so I can map those controls to cc.
